Expanse Shorts
Everything you love about the Expanse leggings, now as a bike short!
(Am I mostly copy pasta-ing this description? Yep, you caught me—see the bolded bullet point for the major difference.)
The shorts are based on our leggings, which were developed on a sample size 3X or 22/24.
Our graded measurements are based on the fullest fit model silhouette available.
The wide, high-rise waistband is reinforced to reduce shifting and rolling.
The back waistband is slightly pointed to reduce pulling and tightness on the backside. It wasn't an aesthetic choice, but we've been told this contouring also nicely accentuates the peach. You're welcome!
We chose to use a diamond gusset to improve range of motion and avoid the dreaded ahem dromedary metatarsal effect.
We use flat lock seams for durability, support, and comfort.
We take pockets very seriously, so we gave you three: one on each hip and another on the back waistband. The side pockets are about 5 inches wide at the top, tapering slightly towards the bottom, and 7 inches deep. The back pocket is about 7 inches wide with a 5 inch opening by 4 inches deep with the bottom following the pointed back waistband seam. All pockets were tested to confirm they accommodate a standard sized phone. Note: pocket measurements were taken on a size 3X and may vary slightly by size.
We tried a variety of inseams and the magic number seems to be 9” to avoid chub rub and prevent any creep on the thighs. As a generously thighed human, I am deeply distrustful of shorts, so I tested this extensively on my daily walks.
But we knew that a fantastic design could only get us so far, though. We also understand that the fabric of a garment can really affect how it performs. It took some searching, but we finally found our unicorn.
The fabric is a 250gsm textile, which is a higher weight than most "standard" leggings.
It has a soft, sleek finish and doesn't feel heavy or hot.
The fabric is engineered specifically for active use and wicks moisture quickly.
It offers four-way stretch with medium support
Our Black, Dark Plum, Deep Teal, and Twilight colorways are fully opaque/squatproof.
Our Ember colorway is such a vibrant color that, despite being made from the exact same fabric, it is NOT fully opaque/squatproof. Please mind your underpants with this one (nude/skin tone is fine).
The fabric is 75% recycled nylon and 25% spandex. It will comfortably hug your body and retain its shape.
For those with ethics and sustainability in mind, it is Oeko-Tex certified.
And if you hate high maintenance clothes as much as I do, you'll appreciate that it is fully machine launderable (wash AND dry).
